Use of the add-in

I have difficulties creating a template

To create a template, we recommend to watch our tutorial videos. For most people, it is useful to develop templates in a gradual approach, frequently testing and improving the set-up. For more sophisticated solutions, we also recommend to acquire support from specialized Excel consultants.

I have difficulties distributing templates, it seems that the add-in is not functioning as it should

In some cases, distribution of templates encounters difficulties, e.g. due to server access limitations imposed by your IT department. Due to this, we recommend to always run tests of the specific business solution that you want to run with Carbono—using the 30 days free trial—before purchasing licenses.

How can I use Macros and VBA programming with Carbono?

You can use macros and VBA programming as usual with Carbono. However, there are some things to observe, we thus recommend to watch the video tutorial ´Advanced Use´.

How can I get consulting support for developing my templates and set-up?

Hiring external consulting support is generally a good option for developing more sophisticated business solutions. There are skilled consultants available in most parts of the world, who can quickly learn about Carbono´s funcionalities via our online tutorial videos.

How many sheets can I distribute to users?

Distribution of sheets is limited by Excel´s ability to repeat certain processing routines for many times. In most cases, distributing up to 400 or 500 templates should not be problematic. However, after a certain time, Excel may crash when exceeding a very high number of sheets distributed. If this happens, you may need to re-activate the Carbono Add-in manually after restarting Excel (see also under ´Installation´ of this FAQ).

When making a new set-up, the template sheet does not appear on the ´choose template´ list

This generally occurs when one or several Carbono field(s) or tabele(s) are not properly configured. Check all Carbono elements, and repeat creation of the new set-up.

The columns of the Data Sheet do not match the fields and tables that I configured in the template

Carbono separates the data sheet structure from the data structure, and both can be handled independently. When creating and/or modifying a template, both structures shall not be mismatched unintentionally. If this mismatch occurs, the columns in the data sheet may not reflect what you had in mind creating. Please watch the ´advanced use´ tutorial for further information.

How can I use a cloud service to distribute templates to users?

A cloud service is a good option to distribute templates to users. Carbono works with all cloud services, like OneDrive, Share Point, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. However, as the distribution of templates occurs via the process owner´s Explorer, this person needs to install the respective cloud service´s local client for Explorer. For further information on this, please watch our tutorials.

The templates don´t get properly distributed to users, what shall I do?

When executing the ´distribute´ command, make sure that all file paths you named in the Carbono data sheet are accessible from your Explorer. Also, make sure to use the correct file extensions in the file path (´.xlsx´, or ´.xlsm´ in case your template contains macros), and to have adequate worksheet ID´s in the data sheet.

Carbono crashes frequently, what shall I do?

If Carbono presents frequent instability, please uninstall it from your computer, download the most current version from our website, and install this version. If this does not solve the issue, we kindly ask you to e-mail us a detailed description of the problem. Please include complete version numbers of your Windows (e.g. Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit 10.0.14393), your Excel (e.g. Excel 2016 MSO 32-bit 16.0.4364.1201), the Carbono add–in you are using, screen shots of error messages, together with the corrupting Excel file. In many cases, we can offer a quick solution. In case you discovered a more complicated issue, it will be added to our development pipeline and incorporate the next version release.
